A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the exact poet

i very carefully, meticulously

throw words randomly on the page

as if there were purpose

and i had some reverence for my genre.

Who entrusted me to write poetically minded

excursions

my pen was less traveled

than a five-year old kid

with a sheltered life

you read me and surmised

i had actually spent time

choosing each word so delicately

enumerating on the expansive vocabulary

of synonyms and other erstwhile condiments

that adorn a well-prepared poem

yet, i fool you all,

my offerings fall on the white floor of parchment

like cards in a game of 52-pickup

some of them face up,

but most of them too embarrassed to show

even the most careless correspondent.

An entertaining look at the voluminous amount of words available to humans and yet we use and teach so little. This is wonderful!

I really like this! It truly reflects the difficulty in writing a poem and finding the right words. It can be a struggle at times. Thanks again for a great poem!

I think this stanza says it all: "yet, i fool you all,

my offerings fall on the white floor of parchment

like cards in a game of 52-pickup"

You see poetry for the art it really is.

We each have our own style and manner of writing. Some more creative than others, but we each have a voice, and something worth saying. Whether this poem took hours to compose, or was written almost totally off the cuff, hardly matters. What does matter is that it is a highly expressive piece, with some superb poetic imagery! A true poem! Excellent!

The last verse in my belief is so much like You :>. this is brilliant and smart and You fooled us lol. we are the same, sometimes we throw words on pages, other times we spend hours and hours working on it, but as always what matter is the heart and the sincere emotions, nothing can fool that :> an amazing piece.

Gee
It amazes me, even though It shouldn't, that folk can spend days, weeks even writing and editing just one piece of poetry/pride when most if not all of my offerings are penned in the hour before I shoot off to work( perhaps this shows!)
Love the last 6 lines Jacob :))
Hope you are well
