A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Assignment

at the tender age of forever

a tear spoke as it fell

then was intercepted

by a finger crossing a swollen cheek

a monster from a closet of epiphany

rose up in anger

but a gun raised in defiance

sounded

a thing that once was a relationship

smote,

and lay on a floor of pitiful arrangement

as the last breath formed a question mark

a few punctuated blood stains

and the revised theme

of an essay she had hoped

never to write.

I hate when relationships end suddenly like a gunshot from one terrible critique or comment. I've been dazed before, but seem to forget what it feels like to be shot with every newfound love. Do we get used to the pain or is it now just expected? I'm just babbling. I don't know s**t after all these years. LOL. I do know that I like the poetics you were weaving with each stanza. Enjoyable metaphors aplenty. CD

Lol. Wow, that sounded wise.
I believe what we have here is a metaphorical description of a relationship's end. The epiphany mentioned may refer to a realization that betrayal/infidelity was in progress. The shooting represents her angry reaction, and the broken relationship "lay on the floor." The revised theme is the new reality that must be faced. Win some, lose some.
