Existential friendships

Existential friendships

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Existential friendships
my abstract ability
to live in a figurative house
causes me agoraphobia
Life is just two steps away
but the fear is conjoined with me
the Six O'clock news is building
a panic room for me to lay my
tear-stained courage
amongst quilts of perverse logic
I don't want metaphors
lurking outside my door
they need to come in
protect my sanity
this world trumps
that one
my verbose feet
are stuck
locked in among the weeping
sleeping axioms
addressing my inability
to refer to existence
in concrete terms.

Although there is undoubtedly much truth here .. without wishing to teach my granny to suck eggs .. I'm sure I dont need to remind you, that much of what we hear and read today is far from the truth, yet beautifully contrived and for reasons that may never become clear, let alone understood .. enjoyed tho' and ever so.

thank you for your words, Neville,

This is a true and daily struggle! How lovely that you have put not only into words but to lines of verse. This speaks of what is lived and the internal journey that is both external and daunting. An anthem for like spirits. Thanks J for sharing.

I can relate to the news. There is never anything positive on it and makes me want to shutter a way myself. As always will written. Thanks for posting.

yes, negative upon negative...thank you for your understanding words, Ranger,

The six o'clock news is enough to make anyone unable to refer to anything in a stable manner. This one would delight M. Sartre, although that is not necessarily a compliment. This one is an apt commentary on what the state of the world is doing to us now.

dear Jacob… living in a Tree House is from a Birds View.. spending each day chirping Songs and having Fly Overs. No one knows where we sleep at Night in the Light of Moonbeams. The Perfect Place to be. Pat

An awesome poem. Fear, like any negative feelings, can be a double-edged sword. If taken to extremes, it can cause more harm than good. We are all conjoined deep down with positives and negatives. We bring them out in the open in due times. Media thrives on everything negative for ratings and selling more ads. People fall for their traps especially the sensational news outlets. I'm for making a profit, but don't tell lies and cause mass hysteria.
Good news, we have poetry and sir Jacob!

My pleasure. You are welcome, sir Jacob.
We each have our own way of living, and we each make space in our own head for the things we like. But other things - darker things - get inside our head too, so our own mind is never quite the safe comfort zone we would like it to be... "my abstract ability to live in a figurative house causes me agoraphobia" - these opening lines made me smile. I can identify with these thoughts, though I would probably never have come up with such a sharp idea myself! Brilliantly expressed! We have reason to fear the outside world - and our own imagination can amplify those fears. A most interesting, and inventive, poem!

Thank you for your very kind review, Robert.

You know there are times when I envisage living alone for a bit of peace and quiet. I have never lived on my own. Can you believe that? I wonder what it would be like to have my own space without the comings and goings of others and the noise.

And then I think, some people would trade places with me at the flick of an eye lash, who would love the variety of people and activity, and others would put on their running shoes and sprint :)

I drifted reading these lines J, but that's where I went.

We get used to what we have. It's our comfort zone :)

I came back and read this one again. J. Got something completely different. Our own safe place can keep us protected from the stuff going on outside. If we turn off the six o'clock news we won't be filled with the fear of what's going on in the real world.
