A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

from Robert Creeley's Back Pocket  (napkin poem)

blackmail,
love letters of forged signature
spent ink
on fabled feelings

I gave you a heart
wrapped in paper longing
anticipated ribboned memories
acquired as future words

the poems are innocent pawns
I, the gullible pen

lamplight lyrics
under duress
written to be freed of past
enticements costing more emotion

than I could afford
I just wanted out
when finally,

you wanted in

Isn't that sod's law for you? Killer ending. Love can be so exhausting. Sometimes you just have to let them go. This one is understood. Been there.

great names....
The juxtaposition of this piece is subtle perfection Jacob. You capture emotion into words like it was your birthright. Great stuff!

Jacob dear... romantic love is like a Coo Coo Clock where one comes out and the other goes in... It all depends on if you have the Time to "fool around" lol... Pat

Can't tell whether the mood here is celebration or frustration. The impression is the speaker had decided the relationship was going nowhere and wanted out. Then, evidently unexpectedly, the other person wanted to continue. The best thing about romantic love is it's an excuse to drink.

thank you, John,

I like the path you take to find the end.
Isn't that how it is so many times

I believe the appropriate saying is: who's sorry now?
