Time Passages and empty Foyers

Time Passages and empty Foyers

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Time Passages and empty Foyers

I curled up

in the arms of a decade

the lover gave me years

then vanished

now I am assaulted by a decade

I detest

the ruination

a book of detestable poems

but i couldn't write you out of my

conscience

I could only curl up

with your memory.

I sort of felt the echoes of recent (and older times) in this and I truly apologise for standing or being so far away and drawing or pretending to have a conclusion on your words or feelings… I claim know nothing other than the hope that you are OK my friend xxx

Jacob,

you have penned a very poignant piece of poetry for all those of us who are growing older and ever nearer the grave, having lived and pissed off the very best years of our lives during those bygone days that shall live on forever in our hearts and minds ... A very enjoyable read ...

For some reason, I feel this one is about the '60's. It was a wild decade, especially the second half. Memorable times do stay with us, but dust is dust. Personally, I will be glad when this bummer we're in now becomes food for the wind.

yes, it was...I might have dust on me, but I am full of memories.

Comparing the loss of a great decade with the loss of a beautiful lover. So interesting indeed. Im guessing that you wrote these about the 2010s versus the 2020s? The 2010s gave you love, and amazing memories like a great lover would. The 2020s giving us too much of heartache with covid, inflation etc like a lover just vanishing. Interesting! I liked this analogy, thanks for sharing!

the 2020's yes...but the late sixties, early seventies are where the memories lie.

A place in time depicted as a long lost lover. Never forgotten, never duplicated.

I like this, Jacob.

I live in the sixties and seventies. The rest of the world moved on. But my decades still have the best music. They have some of the best poetry too. Come visit anytime, the past misses you.

It seems to me that great poetry comes out of heartache and loss as you have demonstrated here dear j.
I feel your pain and have experienced the same. They have left an imprint on our souls and, over the years may fade a bit but, will always remain. Great read....as usual dear friend. Temp

funny how curling up with a memory still leaves you lonely Jacob.... I'm sure by now you know that she will always be with you, have a hold on part of your heart and still also have possession of your pen.... you may detest that decade, but I believe you are still (if only partially) in love with her... perhaps sadder is that we enjoy reading about her through your poetry....

my "true love" (if there is such a thing) lasted only 5 years and yet I still write her poetry, something I promised her 50 some years ago.... amazing how love affects us isn't it....

oh and just so you know, it is a wonderfully and emotionally charged poem in my humble opinion...

She has provided much material for your poetry. It seems sad that a failed relationship has given your fans much satisfaction while you suffer the discomfort still. What we do for our art eh Jacob?
