the burden deferred

the burden deferred

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the burden deferred
political asylum
crazy women scorned
by judge's verdicts
stranded
without influence
decisions handed down
find refuge in ghost constitution
phantom language
a refuse of paper logic
sign the document
a bevy of voices hushed
in one stroke
five artisans
relegate their surreal painting
of conscience
morality is out of our hands now
the soul stolen
what penance now?
and who really needs rosaries
in prayer for their culpability?

The spirit of the law if not upheld is downright immoral and a gross miscarriage of justice.

yes, gross...thank you, Frederick,
j.
The control and craftsmanship, given the nature of a subject which all too easily lends itself to invective and polemic, is both welcome and admirable.

I cannot tell you how angry I am about that decision...

The shock of this ruling is felt on this side of the pond. Dinosaurs making decisions for women. It is a disgraceful step back into the stone age J. I feel your anger. So well penned.

Outrageous that these men are called "conservatives". They bring us back to an age where woman had no power. The way they're going, next they'll be segregating people by race. And then they'll talk about the "glory days" where there were still slaves. Poetry is a great form of activism. Thank you for this art, hopefully we can be more rallying cry than drowned out noise, and fix this. It's looking grim.

They surely are trying to do all of this...if not now, when?
thank you, R.J.

I agree Jacob. Here in Michigan, trying to use a 1931 law.
"morality is out of our hands now
the soul stolen
what penance now?"
The above lines. Solid and meaningful. Thank you my friend for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.
