"a bevy of numbers that refused
to come out even
remainders
that were reminders
of my bad math
when it came to love."
Oh, my goodness, isn't that the truth!
There is not enough words to describe the many ways I loved this poem, thanks.
This is a wonderful metaphorical image of a failed relationship and our ineptness in navigating the many dimensions and complexities of love. Your poetry is at once personal and universal.
Maths was never my strong point either JE-C - you had to have Maths O Level for University entrance and it took me 3 goes to pass the darned O Level. Very good this piece and a nicely sustained metaphor.

Through all the maths, all I could see dear J was a car crash. Having said that I was never any good at maths. You are so clever with your metaphors. Excellent title.

You are not a car crash, you are a poet and and an exceptionally good one :)
Some say that everything can be broken down to a mathematical equation....even love? Maybe that's our problem with love....trying to break it down to make sense to us instead of just taking it as it comes and not question it. No adding, subtracting, dividing, etc. Just be at one with it. Interesting poem.
