stepladders and fear of heights

stepladders and fear of heights

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

stepladders and fear of heights

it flared like bell-bottom jeans

at a sixties love feast

freedom to smile

to touch

in conversation

like a drug, her voice

intimating i would get high on the sound

capture an old intimacy

find my way back

injection, rejection, projection

a heart riddled

mends

from dead ends

then new roads

love sits in a cupboard

like some can of cream corn

that never spoils, just waits

to be opened

consumed

a taste of something older, becoming something young again.

Very wonderfully powerful and meditatively contemplative in thinking of life, al it has been, and all that it could well be, yet, one more time, before that end that we shall both come to know, my friend ...

Love the last line! Hearts do mend and we need to be open for new loves to come into our life. Open that can!! Great read! Temp

Love that final stanza. It's all in the cupboard of life. Yes, there to be consumed when you are ready to do so. Never too late J.

Wow! We all have those Cans in ou Cub-bard... mine are expired.
I had my best Meal when I was 72... now I eat my veggies fresh and make homemade Soup with Imagination and Herbs... a bit of fresh Ginger ... and always carrots and celery with cabbage and potatoes and tender onions.
Fresh Spring Water and Cauliflower. Fresh tomatoes at the end to simply simmer for a while. gently, Pat

Awesome, J. Reminds me so much of Leonard Cohen in diction. Have you made or published a chapbook?
