Table for One

Table for One

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Table for One

a fixation
on your poem
a goodbye on the morning table
a kitchen full of blues

you didn't need to sign
unknown author
is familiar to this hungry heart
who will pass on breakfast

I just wanted a little sugar for my coffee
and an extra napkin
but you had little to give
and much to access

most of the furniture is gone
the house bleak with emptiness
but I am swimming in its luxury
I like alone

when it means being without you
and blues turn red with envy
and bitter tones
because I'd rather make my own eggs

than be with you.

So many ways to understand this - do we take the narrator as accurate or trying to convince himself or is it sarcasm? A pleasure to re-read.
Well done, J.
