I tried to get on the road again, but the old car just wouldn't start, I wanted to chase after the Great Whale, but got seasick just out of port, wanted to contemplate what the sound and the fury was all about, but got lost in the stream of consciousness attempted to recall the alphabet from memory but couldn't get past the Scarlet
"A"--- even though the letter was burned into my reluctant intellect back when high school had witch trials for naughty students of female persuasion, we all suffered Crime and Punishment although I only suffered through fifty pages of the torture, and then I met Holden Caulfield and his "for Chrissakes sister" knew I had met a best friend for life and years later far from my youth, entering my Twilight years, I found him again for a delightful reunion, as he was my dream "Catcher in the
Rye" and I, his page boy, key grip prop someone I could rest still long enough to reread while thinking of a sister far away, one I could never catch. erin-cilberto 8/8/22 © 2022 jacob erin-cilberto |
