a hush in the shadow

a hush in the shadow

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

a hush in the shadow

heart armor
is a keepsake
a box in the attic of old photos
of old loves
gathering the dust of regret
yet,
experience is always a new labor
to open with anticipation

until it is closed with
the same old song playing on the radio
with a static ring
much like the ones given
with fairy tale endings in mind

heart armor
is a keepsake
for the sake of hiding in that attic
in hopes
the intruder
will surmise
no one is home.

Yes, the intruder that can pierce the armor protecting the heart. That intruder could have many names: memory, regret, passion. Lots to hide from.

many names...thank you, Winston,
j.
A keepsake passed from mistake to mistake. Hope springs eternal and rusty armor never sleeps.

I don’t have an attic
I have a messy top shelf of my wardrobe
Too hard to get too too high so never got to
Loved your write ✍️

Intruder?.......sometimes it takes a burglary to accept what lies dormant waiting to be brought back to life.
