I do hope our words don't get lost in time. Shoot for perfection, and get somewhere close. I'm a carpenter and that's what we always said about building a house. It's a lot like writing a poem.

very interesting, Bill....in an Anne Sexton poem about suicide, after Plath's death....she made the statement about suicides being like carpenters building houses..."they ask what tools, not why build"

I'll check that out. There were times when I had to do things that were on the edge of suicidal. Especially when working for someone too cheap to hire a crane!

I look at the beginnings of greatness, and what I see is a seed. In Picasso, Monet, virtual all the great artists had innate ability I never possessed. Mary Oliver said poets are born; that would be only partially right, I think. Without the education, by self or by others, the language is never used to its fullness. Or maybe it is simply a matter of savant. But yes, it's a long way and a difficult climb.

I once read a critic's dismissal of "Invictus" as the best known bad poem. Can't recall the critic's name. "Invictus" lives on.

critics are seldom remembered although it seems their life's goal is to make the poets not be remembered.

I think of Robin Hood and how he was good at Archery. He stole from the Rich to give to the Poor. That should not be on the Agenda for our present President.

I don't feel fairness is stealing...the rich just need to pay fair share...that is all that is asked ....

Oops.. never should have touched that Subject… yes, I do think the Wealthy should pay their Share without a doubt. I was thinking of Immigrants who get so much Free from our President.. and that has caused us.. the average Citizens to pay more for everything. There should have been a thorough Record of who could come into our Country. Sorry for the Confusion. gently, Pat

At least in the 50’s prices were much lower. and of course our Income was lower also. Now I shop at Thrift stores for some things. The grocery Bill is always high. Watching “Life Liberty and Levine” last night gave us so much Insight. Thank you for your “understanding”…. tenderly, Pat
