it's time

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

it's time

flippant executioner
flippantly flips the switch
a life turns off
one sad mother sheds a tear

her love electrocuted
her heart dries eventually
flippant executioner
heads for home

dinner awaits on the stove
it's a gas stove
his wife flinches

"supper is ready, hon!
please sit."

thank you for appreciating this piece...

I've read this poem several times now. The word executioner sends shivers. I do not believe in a life for a life. I find it abhorrent. I read of a man who was recently put to death in Oklahoma after being in prison for 25 years for a killing he did as a very young man. I don't understand that thinking. Why punish his mother and family further for something which was not in their control. And yes, how can you live with yourself when taking a life even if the state approves it. A powerful write which could form a huge and empassioned debate.
