a painting of a day with no humans

a painting of a day with no humans

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

a painting of a day with no humans

the wingless fly

walks to work

annoying the busy ants

while they try to accomplish

new roads

exploration away from the farm

the disappointed spider

peers from above

surfing the web

for take out

the wingless fly

feels impotent

his flightless life

makes no sense

why was he denied

to be like all of his kind

"different" is just a dumbed down version

of an anomaly

the ants finish their task

and start to party,

the spider sleeps restlessly

the wingless fly

is cold and determined

trying to adapt to his artificial wings

flying low

but at least

not dragging his heels

on the ants' work of art.

I love this one, Jacob. "dumbed down version of an anomaly" is so accurate. I sometimes think if all the humans on the planet would just be taught college-level biology and microbiology, if everyone understood DNA and genomes, how un-different man is from other life forms, how the "anomalies" of life are present everywhere, that we ourselves are the product of such anomalies, then we would have no more reason to war. yes, Imagine no possessions...then we would not be much different than the animals.

A day without humans, our wildlife would certainly thrive without humans trampling all over them little ants. :)

I know how much it means to you, Pat...I surely do.

Is a "fly" without wings called a "walk"? (laughing) What are chicken tenders before they are chicken tenders; are they chicken pretenders? Are people who tend chickens chicken tenders? My daughter said she doesn't know but she must be a turkey because she would "gobble" them up. I told her, no, turkeys do not eat chickens because that would be "fowl". Where is Henny Youngman when you need him? I enjoyed your day without humans. I was getting visions of Dali's "Metamorphosis of Narcissus" and those ants at work in the plaster.

Well here, J.
I can't help feeling that a day without humans on the planet would produce a painting with plenty of sunshine in it. A most intriguing write J.
