the skin within

the skin within

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the skin within

long songs composed

lyrics flutter through bare air

ground borne to lie on scorched grass

the fire of imagination

creates rare images

of burnt orange

floating apricots rising

with the sun

and rotting with the indifferent moon

a short melody

is expressive

love not quite exposed

hidden fruits

a fig leaf covers

the words in their foolishness

long songs

lost on ears attuned

to clicks

keys to life

are not the keys

to what shows on a screen

feeling each other's breath

that is the life source

the love source

the you and me source.

Somehow I pick up something of a rebuff to technology here. There is a lot of nature imagery in the opening verses, apparently alluding to the creative impulse. The last three verses seem to refer to computers in a negative way. Creativity comes from love, not technology.

Technology of the screen and keyboard kind, not exactly helpful when it comes to romance. Now music is different, that can have its positives, but nothing replaces being with someone in person. Lips to lips, breath to breath, heart to heart. That's where I wandered J after reading your words.

Our Muse are very Poetic… Pat
Beautifully expressed words of music in a song. Songs can take form in so many ways. Words turn into poetry as a song has begun ;-]

Love songs works just like magic when you carry so much hidden love inside your heart. You just automatically think of the person. Love, I believe, doesn't care about age. and that's beautiful.

Take out the vinyl, unplug your device whatever it is, and hold hands instead of sharing screens.

Love the message.

This is beautiful Jacob, although if it is about a particular song, I missed it. But yes, love songs resonate more, especially to a poet than the clanky, brain numbing doof doof doof music of the now, where "smack my b***h up" is probably filed under romance.
Yes, I'm showing my age, in its ever wrinkling and greying (so greying) glory, but isn't that the right of the wrinklies, to moan about the youth of today and what passes as news and... I need another nap! 😊

Isn’t it amazing a song’s ability to take us to such places of love and longing? Oh the memories! Lovely writing, absolutely beautiful:)

Love, oh lord what would we do without. I really enjoyed this read, knowing the little I do about you Jacob, even now, after how many wives? you're still penning odes to the most primal of our needs.

Well done friend
