a truly intriguing metaphor you have constructed here Jacob.
Twinning history with the interior monologue we all must navigate through our daily lives. The teeter-tottering effect of lines swinging like a pendulum between the narration of known catastrophe and personal angst, near embitterment, is a riveting read.
The sinking of the Titanic on her maiden voyage, a huge catastrophe. That happened in April 1912, the year my Nan was born. I don't know what happened this April, but the sinking of the Titanic is a great metaphor for a disaster if ever there was one. The heart isn't a lifeboat. I like that very much J.

Probably the most impressing maritime disaster imprinted in my childhood consciousness right around the time the original Poseidon Adventure and Towering Inferno were released. There was an encyclopedic period of obsession, all before things were googled wherein as a child I followed an information scavenger trail on such stories, the Lusitania, Andrea Doria, Stockholm, Titanic, and the like. This April my father passed away and also in April and three decades ago also in April, so did his dad, my granddad. A jolting movement incorporating bright and dark moments scrunched up in a month.

Not a good month for me as mum passed on the 9th, cremated on the 23rd then my birthday on the 30th.
Imagine the switch from excitement at being on that journey to the sheer terror of the liner sinking!
Quite the interesting comparison - loss but of what type? Not sure, could be death or could be something that feels like death. Definite loss, though. And a giant ship, plunging into the Atlantic depths.
Pretty cold hearted, I would say.
