Or maybe there wasn't an opportunity in the first place, and we are only kidding ourselves. Either way, been in that game, fumbled, and benched by the coach.
This could be interpreted as a metaphor for life being short and passing by too quickly, but a less serious interpretation could be the feeling of seeing a cute face in the crowd while on a run or driving or at an airport and knowing you'll never see that perfect stranger again. In some other parallel universe, the two of you could have been friends, enemies or soul mates. But in this one, the replays of the missed opportunity would have to suffice your grubby old heart. :))
