Holding you up to my ear

Holding you up to my ear

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Holding you up to my ear

empty shells

no ocean breeze

or sound of tide

eclipse of love's moon

darkness descends

I loved you once

when the stars spoke

to young intimacy

the glow never seeming

to burn out

and the waves touched the shore

with such momentum

we became dizzy

from the sway

then love turned away

now the quiet is overwhelming

as I seek solace

inside that shell

of what we once had been.

Ah, yes, that youthful passion we call love turns out to be pheromones and then we think the love that never really was is gone. Well done, Jacob

good point....was never really there.
thank you, Winston,

Love's turning away can, of course, be quite a painful experience. And hearing within a shell? Long time since I did that - but I did! Thank you, Jacob.

pretty relaxing to listen...unless emptiness is all we hear.
thank you, Andrew,
j.
You are missing a young love and you have never gotten over her. The shell held to the ear reminds me of my grandmother. She gave me a pair of conch shells. When our family moved away from her home when I was seven, I pined for her. I held the shells to my ear as she told me to. It brought me comfort. A beautiful poem which touched me J.

dear Jacob, I find the sound of the Ocean in your poem... holding a Seashell I have heard the Ocean as it sways and becomes a momentum... "I loved you once when the Stars spoke". The golden Sand may find you in your golden years embracing that special time. Lovely persuasion... tenderly, Pat
