Cold Day

Cold Day

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Cold Day

her brown eyes

flickered one last time

the reflection of orange

the blue tipped killer

finality the formality

we all burned inside

standing outside

beside her closed coffin.

There is something to be said about funerals ... the finality ... the sense of loss ... that little piece of the departed dwelling in our minds.
Always there ... returning whenever our thoughts run back that way.

Closed casket is the way to go. Seems degrading to have people file past for one last look ... if only to make sure you're actually gone.

I like this j.

Gee
Hmmm, is it drugs, the cold weather, guess only you know that Jacob.
With all that is going on in the world and many folk in the UK having to decide between heat or eat I'd put money on folk dying of hypothermia this winter. This world has gone mad!
Hope you are well Jacob

This is a different perspective for this piece...I like it, Gee...and thank you,

As usual my imagination ran away with me and what I read was that a beloved young person was killed, shot with a blue tipped bullet (these may not exists but imagination rarely listens to me) and the last thing she saw was the orange of the gunfire. The contrasts really are good, i agree with the previous comments about that. There is a garden up in northern California where the ashes of many in my family are buried, each with a tree or rose bush etc above the ashes, poured straight into the earth so they feed the tree. I have always liked this. After that, they starting uncorking bottles and the wake begins.

interesting....I am enjoying the different interpretations of this.
thank you, Amy,

The inner burning forms a contrast to the cold weather. I get the impression of one young who departed prematurely. The colors brown, orange and blue stand out. The killer I cannot determine, but there is no doubt it was lethal. A somber piece here.

It's getting colder here every night. I hate funerals. I've been to too many. I'm going to be cremated and have done with it. The last thing I want is a bunch of people who never cared enough about me in life even to visit, standing around talking about me after I'm gone. None of that "celebration of life" crap either. I'll celebrate my life while I'm still here. Let the dead bury the dead...I'll be gone elsewhere.

I am going to be cremated as well...and ashes scattered in my favorite lake.

So, so cold! Must have been very bad to need a closed coffin.
Very interesting take on what I assume was a murder.

Take care - Jacob

I can see where it might lead you there...thank you, Dave.

This sounds like a horrible death ( a killer may have dismembered her or maimed her in other
ways) and that’s why the coffin was closed….the mourners were so troubled outside that they were burning inside…. A ghostly scene
(Is this for Halloween?)
