A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

all the wrong places

love is a barroom brawl

instigated by a second look

in the uninvited direction

a glass thrown breaks a mirror

she sees herself with a cracked smile

his cheek swells

like her heart.

I believe your favorite poet said that “love was a dog from hell”… Bukowski had many wonderful definitions and I know we differ in his appreciation and isn’t that marvelous! You’re taking on such lofty subjects lately or rather, they seem to be at your mercy, much like the simpler heart or mind of most men in comparison at times to that of a woman’s expressions in the constancy and need for the duplicitous nature of love, where the complexities must hold a million in every second, and isn’t it amazing to celebrate every last one that she holds in both our smile and madness. I’m sure if we put our heads together we could come up with a billion more comparisons but I think a barroom brawl does it fair justice J. How much trouble do you think I’m in? … lol

"say when" one of Doc Holliday's favorite things to say in "Tombstone."

Lol… thought it fitting~ Glad you got it!
I use to spend with my father and uncles at bars,
I didn't even know it was a bar.
But one day, so long ago, I had a friend, go with me with one,
I never knew what his pref. was, so I told him to speak to another. I feel awful, now.
Crack, and she looks into the mirror, love that,
the whole poem, takes my imagination out there
enjoyed it.

you are most welcome Jacob Erin Cilberto,
I ah think many thoughts within your poem,
That second look in an uninvited direction has ignited many a brawl. Love isn’t all hearts and roses is it? This made me smile J. Played out in many a bar in real life and on film.

I think of love in terms of brawls and broken mirrors and it amused me so much. Coming to think of it, love is indeed full of conflicts and a lot of hitting and beating, metaphorically. I loved how you said it here.

The above lines in my Texas days. Happen often. Those Texas girls like to fight. Thank you for sharing the amazing and entertaining poetry.

They did and they carry pistols Jacob. You are welcome.
A brutal romantic scene unfolding. Primitive thinking standing tall. There is texture and feeling throughout. The last lines made me smile. Grinning Jacob.
