always

always

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

always

the trees extend

love is a whisper of leaves in a breeze

and then the roots

die in drought

wildfires pummel the army

of wooden soldiers

there is no growth in autumn

just colors preceding the balance

between life and death

summer and winter

goodbye is a hard word

even if it is just a soft rustling sound.

With leaves aloha might be more apt with its twin meanings and leaves promise to return.

they promise, but cannot always fulfill that promise.

Goodbyes always hurt, in any form and shape and decibels. We are conditioned to hold onto things, even if dead. The imagery is softly enchanting, the message is touching. Such a beautiful poem, my friend.

Things and people...we really do hold on.
