a shell of what she was

a shell of what she was

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

a shell of what she was

felonious beauty

burns at the touch

inside the eyes are glazed

lifeless

love---a phantom opera

of dead songs

i held her hand once

the scars now prevail

her once beautiful skin

scales of scandalous serenity

she is more than alone

and the music accompanying

her soulless prism

sharp tones

aimed at all the men

who dug her mirth's myopic grave

with their bad intentions

and what they imagined

to be misdemeanor words

fired at her with

.357 magnum tongues.

I appreciate your kind words, jaye,

Words hurt without any question of doubt. Verbal or physical abuse can linger for years. The title says it all. I remember Claire. It was her Dad who was the b*****d abuser. I still see the fear in her brown eyes. A step Dad without an ounce of compassion.

I would like to pound her stepdad into the sod.
Best be careful of how we say as well as what we say. If only when young we could glimpse old. Or would it matter?
