all the ones that got away

all the ones that got away

puns ripple through

the pond scum of the poem

whose stench

accords besmirches 

as the subjects run for cover

writers wresting good judgement

from their lines

dangling love

then snatching it from the hook

our pens are mightier than our reason

and dead pan fish are always in season

if we catch them

nibbling at our words.
