Falling Behind

Falling Behind

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Falling Behind

i scribbled your name

a thousand times

on the blackboard of my heart

punishment or affection?

when i tried to erase

it felt permanent

the demerits accrued

we had promise

but i failed at love

and you graduated

wearing your tassel

for someone else.

She wore her graduation hat with tassles, long gown in pride while you were left with regret tassles and burdensome hassles.
Wow!

appreciate your comment, Sami,

Jacob, this is heartbreakingly beautiful. It is also perfection in poetry. Love every word of this
