I envisage you lost in thought at your most creative time of day. Morsels of madness, as your muse takes over. Ravenous writing until the pages are printed and only then can you contemplate rest.

That sounds to me, very much a description of your muse. She likes to come out late at night and you never know where she is going to lead you. You just follow. The writing process. Fabulous poem j.

A rolling stone gathers no wool. Imagine Mick Jagger looking sheepish. I'm always reading in bed. I read Shogun over a four night stretch and wanted more. I read poetry mostly during the day...I'm always forcing poems on my daughter but she doesn't seem to mind much. Oh, not mine, but Yeats and Shelley and Poe and Coleridge and Dickinson. She makes me listen to modern song lyrics so it's a balanced abuse cycle. (laughing) May the poetry bring you sweet dreams eventually.

"usurp sleep": I had to think about this for a while Jacob. But it's real, especially for a poet who is constantly surrounded by and eaten by all the words that attack every waking moment. They are relentless and move with stealth and just when you think they are gone, WHAM!! And how often even after a hostile takeover of sleep, do they follow you down into your dreams!? Oh boy, that's where the real fun begins. And in Poe like fashion, you can hear that Tell Tale Heart and the Raven cawing!!!!
Cool poem Jacob!!!

Oh, I just love this one! "Morsels of madness" are often late night snacks for a poet. It's been a while since I've read your words on WC. Now I remember why I keep coming back. Lydi**
