A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the find

archaic feelings

poems in hieroglyphics

scrawled on the walls of my heart

sad stone souvenirs

she was an old flame

a candle I couldn't keep lit

a few stamps on an envelope

a goodbye airmailed over oceans

archaic feelings

the cave sheds tears

I saw her enter

I pause over words

still catch the candle's aroma

but love no longer

has a scent

it died centuries ago.

I kept my love letters from my Army days. They make me smile.
(archaic feelings
the cave sheds tears
I saw her enter
I pause over words)
I did like the above lines. Archaic feeling and thoughts. We do know. Thank you Jacob for sharing the outstanding poetry. I did like this one.

Sometimes old flames can be relit. This appears not to be one of those times. A chance encounter makes goodbye really final.

This definitely speaks to the poet in me who dives headlong into every potential "great love". ~Jim

I felt as if I entered an ancient cave and smelt the millennia. That cave felt like the poet's heart. That love that died centuries ago, yet seems so strangely alive... that's how I related to it.

Some flames die out, don't they, Jacob - without a kiss to fan it onward...
Until it's just our own, lighting impressions of the past.

So many flames burn brightly in the initial relationship, but keeping it burning is a challenge.
