A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Genres of Selves

I am a fictional novel
of greatness
a character to be reckoned
the action hero
with a pen for a weapon

the non-fiction version
was too dry
undignified
just very normal
ennui poured out of every page

we write ourselves
into being
a creation
a recurring character
to be followed into the next book
or not

depends on depth
appeal
witty dialogue
empathy
and now, thinking it through

there will be no sequel
I was a novel idea
that should have remained
a concept.

Not kind totally fair dinkum lol 😂
Well, this is weird. I reviewed this already, but it's not here? It could've been the huge storm that passed through at just that hour. Ah, well, I thought it was well and deeply cheeky in the "novelty" sense but still worth the price of the read and review. You don't' see ennui as often as I'd like, as it is a favorite beyond its meaning, but perhaps the lack is a better way of bringing out its worth. A wonder for the undercurrents J.~

Thank you for your words, Perdition.

Robin Williams put out a comedy album entitled "Reality: What a Concept" Some "scientists" think life is actually a computer program. I like to write my own code, color outside the lines, inside the lines, just color it all with poetry. Very nice usage of extended metaphor in this. I enjoyed.

Indeed, the non-fiction versions far too often lack the "pow" a reader looks for. Insightful writing. ~Jim

Time twists reality into fiction and each rewrite becomes more mythical. The word novel is ambiguous is it new or a book? Either way it fits and the novel of our life is novel in that it is lived only once there are not rewrites here. The ink stains the page and can only be removed by distortions in legend. Lovely and thought provoking

yes! interesting! our new writing done all over the pages of our web sites :) we make our own selves up, remake, keep trying until enough likes satisfies our nogs .. then there are the real levels of ourselves .. so obvious yet buried with needs for uncovering ... "..no sequel.."; "...a novel idea.." inspires thinking in me .. but I'm kind of glad for a good book to read on a regular basis .. i like your metaphor sir! it works for me!

very interesting…. if you believe that your novel stands alone with its own creativity and greatness, then the is no need for a sequel….. i agree that non-fiction ( essays, etc ) are dull, boring with no sparkle” their will be no sequel is was a novel idea” a great play on words J…. very clever!
Warmly, B

PS i can see we are night owls!
My book would be fictional too, but less wordy and more inflatable than others in that genre!
Like perhaps titled the ABC of not drowning your baby in the bath!
....
Is it just me or is that the best review I've ever done! 😃
