Ah Jacob a poem that goes to the heart of every poet. A poem unread is dead still born. The hope of every poet is not necessarily to be famous but heard. A heartfelt write my friend I too have written poems on this topic.

I think we write from our own awareness and personal perceptions of reality and imagination. If an AI IS aware of itself and has its own perceptions of reality or imagination I still wonder what it would express and the shape and feel of that expression.

Thanks for stopping by with your thoughts on this, Chris.

To me, the current AI "feels" to be children - still searching for and finding their values and principles and discovering emotions in this world we perceive and beginning to have life experience to back up their personal development. Many children are "savants' in many subjects far exceeding their "learned" knowledge. Comes a point upon reaching adulthood we exercise what we've learned and yet still have to grow by dealing with our take on emotion... based upon our learning, perceptions, and life experience - now an AI reaching that point will be a sight. To me awareness INCLUDES emotions and how they are dealt with.

Jacob,
Let's say God created all things and us in His image. Yeah, RIGHT! Well if so, then in His image we attempt to create. We can't make a physical object from nothing, only the idea of it... with WORDS that come from a place no AI can go.

Yes, from a place no A.I. can go, but they still try to.

I generally abstain from review processes here - they often feel transactional and, to your point, inauthentic. That said, I agree that AI use on any creative platform is likely worth talking about.
In the classroom, I use simple AI detectors to verify work - they're free and are generally pretty reliable.

Overall, I find catching students using AI isn't hard, but ensuring they understand why it's problematic, is.
Anyways, I'm surprised to see this here - I wouldn't have guessed you'd have a shortage of honest and genuine feedback on your work.

Yes, I use the A.I. detectors in the classroom as well, although I find it is pretty easy to spot without. And I agree that convincing them why it's problematic does present a challenge.
Lately, I have had some instances of A.I. reviews, not often, but others have complained to me of it and I have seen several reviews on others' poems using it, and several using it to write poems.
So, this piece was for all of us in hopes we could quell the tide.
thanks for your response to this.

When you mention AI, it sends a little shudder through me j. As far as I am concerned there is no place in poetry for AI. It stifles creativity. There is no heart in AI. I want to read the words of a poet and the responses from real readers, not a blinkin robot. Excuse the language but I feel strongly about this. Must be a nightmare for teachers. Your words here mean so much dear J.

Jacob, thank you for this. You are a gifted poet. I always admire your word interplay, the length to which you go to convey the emotion and your clever weaving that encourages the reader to flow with the words. A fan here.
