another empty house

another empty house

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

another empty house

the subject arose

like crab grass

in a pristine lawn

of thinking

the smell of freshly cut

leanings

the blades confounded by

the lies of a false rain

the yard now overgrown

with disenchantment

promises' weedy interception

the imploding ball dropped

sign posted

"for sale to the lowest bidder,

I have no shame."

my lot in life

is an abandoned theme.

a lot in life, is an abandoned theme. some fructify and some don't.
and certainly this line resonates:
the yard now overgrown
with disenchantment

with deep images, this write sends one in the whirlwind of thoughts. thanks for sharing this piece, j.

Haunting and vivid—each image cuts deep. I especially loved “promises' weedy interception” and “my lot in life is an abandoned theme.” Quietly powerful.

Most welcome.
time to sell may be equal to time to ease out of writing poetry… because perhaps we have lost the magic touch… and we don’t want to look at an “ abandoned theme”…..

The mystery every time we start to write is what have we been thinking about, maybe we’ll know before we find the final stanza or maybe we’ll be forced to sell.

“The yard now overgrown with disenchantment” — that line alone cracked something in me. This is quietly devastating.

"for sale to the lowest bidder,
I have no shame."
. . .

It may be because the night had dulled my critical thinking, but reading this reminded me of my childhood house, that sold for almost nothing; a shame. I saw it while on a drive, a few days back; it's still the same, but the grass is horribly overgrown and it's painted a different shade of white. I'm not sure it still holds the memories I left there.

Maybe the ghosts of the memories are still there...surely they still inhabit the house.
