absurdly absurd

absurdly absurd

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

absurdly absurd

absurdist poetry
is a baffling anecdote
with explanation lurking
in the shadow of confusion

the absurdist poet
has makeshift metaphor
which might stir mud into the truth
or help the reader see truth
more clearly from inside
the crystal that does not sparkle
with sane logic

I think poets are absurd anyway
incredibly deft at throwing red herrings
to steer us into a strange ambiance
but in a sense, that might be
what makes us investigate our feelings
further

or farther, if we are trying to escape them
but who's counting lines when we are
so absorbed we forget the world around us
is one really messed up senryu
the syllables recounted over and over again
like votes for a legislation in congress

I love poets and poetry and want to sanction
their ambivalence
give them sanctuary
within my readings of their work
I love poets and poetry
no matter how absurd that sounds.

(My favorite part, here. Definitely.)

Even scrolling through the reviews of other ports (writers, maybe?) in this review section, I believe you can see how different we've all developed as; what we all take away from something written is nothing quite the same- it shows that trying to define a meaning of poetry, of the poems itself- heck, the poets on their own, might as well be defined as absurdity. As for a sanctuary, let me know when you're open. . I'll bring the brownies.

On a side note, this is one of my new favorites of yours, baha. .

You’re so adept J at revealing core of words so subtly; I love the play on words too; I’m getting the feeling the it’s okay to go way out of bounds with one’s writing as long as it’s your very own expression!😊
PS getting nowhere with C. So far!

Hiii Jacob Erin-cilberto!!! I just finished reading your profile and how you're a English teacher. You must encounter a lot of poets on top of the writers cafe??!

It's true sometimes we hit the nail on the head sometimes we don't. But personally I use the writers cafe to practice my skillsets.
I'm not perfect. I totally respect the love hate relationship you have with the dear fellow poets.

This poem was very relatable and thanks for sharing. 🤗🤗🤗

Nice work!

I liked the light-hearted exploration of poets and their "absurdity"....
Also the fact that you want to give them "sanctuary"....:)

We are indeed a contrary, flighty bunch, but I'd like to think that we sometimes hit the mark with our words....

Definitely sanctuary....but some states won't allow it, even for poets.

Bravo, my friend! Ya gotta be talkin' 'bout me! And if you're not, you should be. Why, I claim "absurd" as my own private word that no one else can use unless they're talking about me! Then I'll raise my ugly metaphor and proudly say, "aw, shucks, I'm just built that way."
Good stuff, as usual, J.

Poetry is a language, whether absurd or not, that other poets are willing to read and digest in order to hear something said in a different way then the callous guy down the street who curses his way through a conversation.

Thank you for your insightful words, Relic.
Poetry is precious in its purest form.
I love your love of poetry! I am not well versed in the topic of "absurdity" but I do love your play on words and overall sentiment. I was introduced to the theme of "Absurdity" after reading Kurt Vonnegut's "Slaughterhouse Five", (it was both difficult and enlightening after I learned about his life and the real definition of the word). Thank you for this poem and inspiration to discover more about the topic.

Poets like to show it that their's is educated perhaps special educated & know it like tomorrow's today's trip, alone ! Stand for it & enjoy it ? All words are crazy and stupid when music doesn't accompany it; Good poem, great passion.
