absurdly absurd

absurdly absurd

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

absurdly absurd

absurdist poetry
is a baffling anecdote
with explanation lurking
in the shadow of confusion

the absurdist poet
has makeshift metaphor
which might stir mud into the truth
or help the reader see truth
more clearly from inside
the crystal that does not sparkle
with sane logic

I think poets are absurd anyway
incredibly deft at throwing red herrings
to steer us into a strange ambiance
but in a sense, that might be
what makes us investigate our feelings
further

or farther, if we are trying to escape them
but who's counting lines when we are
so absorbed we forget the world around us
is one really messed up senryu
the syllables recounted over and over again
like votes for a legislation in congress

I love poets and poetry and want to sanction
their ambivalence
give them sanctuary
within my readings of their work
I love poets and poetry
no matter how absurd that sounds.

This poem is such a beautiful comment on poetry. I think people connect with a poem in their own personal way and that's the best thing about poetry.

You're welcome my friend.
Yes, that pond awaits! It's going to be beautiful. 🥰
You know we live in absurd times. The madder it gets in the real world, the more sense an escape into poetry becomes. I would rather live in poems these days and find refuge with like minded souls even if their work is open to interpretation. That is a huge benefit in my opinion. I love to read the varying reviews. Connection is everything.

Thank you for understanding, Chris.

I've always assumed that there are many poems out there not meant for me to understand, but I love the different approaches to words and phrases that poets bring to the table. ~Jim

Yes, different approaches, unique poetry, that is what it is all about.
