A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

a grownup's gossip column

I planted a harvest moon

when romance was most suppressed

and flirtatious stars

burnt out in embarrassed reticence

when it grew

we kissed under it

as it had grown in passionate surrender

letting its guiding light lead us to love

I was seven and you were

an imagined dream

as beautiful as a perfect sunrise

the kiss was sheltered behind

a young child's vanity of expectation

she laughed a very sweet laugh

and I had to smile

knowing I was her favorite little heart.

Loves young dream. I still don't know it's rules but in my case seven year old me was matched to marry the lovely Jennifer, who always gave me a choc biccy from her lunch box at playtime.
So my story was determined on a wet day where we couldn't go out to play by one of the times we actually joined in with those girl type things that had their own separate playground.
I must say I was proud to be voted most likely to marry (I never did) and to Jennifer too (who I never saw again after we went to different big schools at the grand old age of eleven.
I wasn't upset that it was deemed we would marry, I'd just like to have had a say in it, but I forgave her for dying in a fire that summer, which might be why I never married.
The strangest thing about it now is I can look in the mirror and see an old man, but when I think of Jennifer she will always be eleven, with red bows in her hair.
I think for some unfathomable reason I was her favourite little heart too.
Very nicely captured Jacob, from the far far away little you.

This poem is really beautiful. It feels soft, dreamy, and full of emotion. The way you mixed childhood imagination with feelings of love is very touching. Lines like “I planted a harvest moon” and “you were an imagined dream” are so poetic and lovely. It’s gentle but powerful, like a memory wrapped in light. I really enjoyed reading it! Thanks for sharing this masterpiece!

Jacob, this reminded me of the time I was 2.5 years old and madly in love with a Bollywood star. Had announced my intentions of marriage to all and sundry. A child's imagination is so vivid and their expectations so innocent. Anything is possible in that world. Its so starlit and magical.

Yes, vivid, lively but unfortunately so make=believe.
Thank you, Divya...we both had dreams.

Yes we did...My friend.
And don't we still....?
More often or not innocence can be the answer to most blots on the landscape. To err might be human but that 'don't make it okay!'

'a young child's vanity of expectation
she laughed a very sweet laugh
and I had to smile
knowing I was her favorite little heart.'

.. and that proves it beautifully.
