Strike a Pose

Strike a Pose

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Strike a Pose

an ominous wind
inside a throbbing chest
nerves of steel
melt into liquid fear

love can be a stoked flame
scorching a heart to ashen disappointment
even in the calm
I loved you like a match

to a matchbook
and flickers still remain
but the words on the matchbook cover
have faded to blur

I am trying to remember you
now and ever.

Time fades the writing on the cover but under the ash of the years, there are still viable embers, still glowing at the edges. You have so much imagery to die for in this poem. I especially love "nerves of steel
melt into liquid fear"
And the last line - feels so final yet sad...
