In the same way as a microwave oven, ai is a useful tool and has a place; but no matter the complexity of the algorithm, the clue is in the word artificial and if you feed ai a lie disguised as data, it will doubtless feast to it's hearts content. As for ai writing any kind of meaningful poetry; I'd rather put my faith in the infinite monkey theorem.
A friend of mine has a truly lovely home, which she has populated with the most beautifully designed artifical flowers; but they have no fragrance and to me they are entirely insentient.
Wisely, I have chosen not to apprise my friend of my thoughts. :))

I was hoping to become an A.I. laureat poet.
You were talking about your friend and her artificial flowers...reminds me how I long for the old days when I was a kid and we always had REAL Christmas trees....and that smell of pine.
thanks for the visit, always good to see you again...

Quite bizarre results I have to say; and absolutely so way off the mark and meaning. They can mimic 'til the cows come home, but it will never be the same as word culled from the human heart and soul.

Although some might say that they experiment with AI to see how close it may come to human art or even surpass it I believe that most of those that use it do it out of fear of their own inadequacies feeling incapable of creating a poem on their own and wishing for accolades they pretend to have written what AI has trying to claim its glory. Although some AI poems seem quite good they have no soul and as such to me are zombies like synthetic music worthless what one may listen to in an elevator or while on hold on the phone. A poem without a human touch cold, lifeless, plastic copy of something living.

A long time ago our youngest son told us his math teacher would let his students use a calculator in his class ... I told him "no'
He asked why not ... I told him I knew how smart a calculator was but I need to know how smart you are.
I've been writing for well over 70 years now ... and everything I turn out has been pounded and kneaded and provoked into life. Not all of it is good ... in fact most of it isn't ... but every now and then one pops up that makes me think it's still worth doing.
AI may be able to copy but can it develop a soul?
There are gifted writers here and varying degrees of ability but they all produce something they have sweated over ... worked and reworked to make their words suit their the intention.
Will AI put that work into it?
Keep fighting my friend ... for we must.

Yes, we must fight for our genre.

I think the root of the problem is notoriety. People want attention and they're not willing to put in the work. They'd rather take a shortcut. It stems from online clicks and AI is the perfect tool for that. I saw a video online yesterday featuring a woman talking but I knew something was wrong. I just couldn't tell what it was. Reading further below the word more, it turned out she wasn't real. It was an AI model.
Everything is turning artificial. Real poetry, real writing of articles and books, they're all in danger. Even voices on videos are fake. Think 1984 and big brother's demolition of facts and the changing of history.

Perhaps 'normal' writers should request, sign petitions - et al, that Al displays it 'proud as punch to be what it is' sign. IF it is satisfied with, proud of its uses in literature, why not ADVERTISE the fact. Honesty is best when it comes being top of this or that week's Best of the Lot.

Dear Jacob,
Poetry was already fading and this onslaught of AI is the final straw breaking the proverbial old camel's back. People who cant string two sentences together are dishing out reams of AI generated stuff and passing it off as their's. I'm now wondering if theres any point in continuing. Thanks to these lovely AI Poets, AI is learning poetry fast. Can we even compete with automation? So why take the trouble at all?

We didn't even know what computers were. We hand wrote every paper...it came from us...and in that class we actually learned how to write...and when I first created poetry, it was in notebooks, handwritten as well...A.I. can't do that. My poetry was pretty lame then, but it did come from a human.
Thank you for your input on this topic.

The stilted verses, awkward lines, amateurish expressions. But so truly worth the satisfaction and joy of learning. Nowadays, they just get slick, finished, perfectly metered and rhymed verses right out of the machine and paste it among us. And its scary.
I am eagerly awaiting your 26th collection and can guarantee there won’t be a hint of AI anywhere. It kills creativity and lacks human emotion. It is not the art of poetry. It saddens me that so many are going down this line j. Wake up posters. Poetry is real art, AI is not. It’s in the name, artificial.
