Autopsy

Autopsy

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Autopsy

time of death

was the time you left

o'clock written in frost

on the pane

in my heart

in the pane

on my heart

the window is still open

just in case

you might alter

time of death

to

time of life.

Hi J., Sorry I blocked everybody when I saw the note that the site would not last a year.
But I'm learning to persevere.
When one window closes, others open.
Your poem reminds me of that.
Always look up so you don't miss whatever's coming your way.
You're a wonderful poet.

There remains one "ghost" from my life that I have left room for, should she find her way to me. Likelihood is zero, but she was always the one. Great writing. ~Jim

Thank you for sharing your ghost.

Beautifully worded J. When the the pane is open our lifespan moves along with time, yet when the window is closed that is when it ends… I love the metaphor “ the pane in my heart” and the window pane; works perfectly

Time and death everything is real. We should learn to face the reality we know ,we can't erase the universal truth but the hope your poem gives in the end is quiet hopeful.

this poem is raw, honest, and brave in exposing the vulnerability of a mind (and heart) experiencing abandonment. but, when all seems lost, there's still hope.

Has to be...at least we have to believe there is hope...otherwise, what is the alternative?

Excellent play on "pane" here. Love those soundalikes that can be used multiple ways.

It's funny how some loves never truly leave, they remain somewhere in our hearts. Your poem reminds me of why I continue to write 'her' poetry. But I think it would have to take a magnitude 5 time warp for the time of death change to time of life. But I will still write 'her' poetry.

Thanks for your poem and the memory, Jacob.

Yes, keep writing her into your life...she will stay.

Some would be too afraid to leave that window open, so great the hurt. How the heart suffers for love. You express that pain and the devastating effect it can have j. Your words are powerfully penned.

Thank you kindly, my friend.

It is a positively terrifying feeling to know there is someone who could ever hold your heart in their hands and decide if it is allowed to continue beating or not. Love is a feeling of euphoric destruction. There is a reason music, art, poetry, and media center around it so much -- it is so powerful, so all encompassing, that it can either elevate or decimate, and I think thats what makes this poem so incredibly profound. Your technique highlights the dangerous feeling of hope in a love that is fading -- that subliminal twilight between "Im here" and "whats here?", dissecting it with anatomical precision. I always enjoy your work, Jacob, and this is certainly no exception, Well done.

Soothe me with your words of consolation
So softly spoken in whispers of adulation
Our time together, so precious
Your fine poetry, better than diamonds
Memories as fine crystals' dust
Swirling in my mind forever

Thank you as well for the encouragement.
