Hell Hath much Fury

Hell Hath much Fury

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Hell Hath much Fury

it's a lackluster morning
the roses are wilting from the heat
birds are hiding in the shadows
unhungry as their feathers
soak from the sweat

the clouds are passing
so slowly, they are virtually
stalled by the humidity
dogs refuse to go for walks
even cats are uninterested
in looking out of their favorite windows

cars warm up before their engines turnover
black interiors suffocate
drivers

I sit in the air conditioning
struggling to cool
reading a book of poetry
about Alaska

and wish I could fly
using these poems
as my vehicle.

Technically, the world hell is derived from the Hebrew word sheol, which literally means the grave and not some fiery place of torment as Christianity would have us believe. Very little of that which Christianity teaches is actually based upon facts, but upon ancient mythological fairytales weaved into the Gospels ... I guess we will all find out what is true or false one day, but there will be no returning to give our report to the world of the living ... LOL!

Jacob,

most wonderful thoughts set to pen of page that make me wish that I could fly using your poems, my poems, anyone's poems as lift to the wondrously soaring heights above ...

If only we could.

Thanks, Marvin.
You created such a fine contrast of heat, humidity and general lethargy to contrast the cold, glittering beauty of Alaska. Indeed, in this stifling summer, who wouldn't want to be in that refreshingly cool and happening place. Its the stage for such great world events these days (regardless of outcomes). I feel I'm missing out on so much. Beautifully written, dear Jacob, this was such a worthy read.

Thank you, my friend.
I felt from your words the stifling heat you have been experiencing. We too on this side of the pond have had our fair share of red hot temperatures. Not good for my pale English skin or my garden on a purely selfish level. Alaska sounds inviting when you are suffocating from heat. Thought flight gets you there. That’s what we poets do. Happy flying j.

The earth is warming rapidly, dear brother. I pray that one day, there won't be a need for distance, nor to transcend the strictures of poetry's particulars. But the first half of our lives, Mort Neff told us about nature, Jacques Cousteau told us about the oceans, George Pero taught us about Europe, John Wayne showed us about masculinity, Reta Hayworth taught us how to walk in heels, and Plath, Sexton, and Frost took us to far off lands that no vehicle could ever reach. I love how you dream. dana

It seems we are hard pressed to find a happy medium these days. Kids will be going back to school in the next week or so. Autumn will be upon us soon thereafter, with falling leaves and perhaps a little noticeable and favorable change in the temperatures. Then we'll be complaining about the cold. The snow and ice upon our windshield. One thing's for certain. Mother Nature definitely has a sense of humor! Hang in there, J. September's coming.

Isn't summer is so overrated? You can't do anything because of the heat and still makes people forget how terrible summer is! Loved your scenes here, the way you use dogs/cats/birds, humid/shadow/sweat and all other words are perfectly fit. And of course as always a beautiful ending.. this poem definitely help me to fly into a different place like a vehicle.

Beautiful. For me it was a PBS special on Peru that had me wanting to fly out of the desert heat. Good writing. ~Jim
