Hell Hath much Fury

Hell Hath much Fury

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Hell Hath much Fury

it's a lackluster morning
the roses are wilting from the heat
birds are hiding in the shadows
unhungry as their feathers
soak from the sweat

the clouds are passing
so slowly, they are virtually
stalled by the humidity
dogs refuse to go for walks
even cats are uninterested
in looking out of their favorite windows

cars warm up before their engines turnover
black interiors suffocate
drivers

I sit in the air conditioning
struggling to cool
reading a book of poetry
about Alaska

and wish I could fly
using these poems
as my vehicle.

I enjoyed the imagery. It feels the same down south.

Thank you, Hallow.

Well that perfectly summarizes the weather we've been having lately. It's been so hot, I've been running out of ways to describe it, but it's this.

Well breaking news here too, from sunny Scotland???? (Yep, you heard that right! Clear blue skies and nor even a wisp of cloud in sight so that can absent mindedly hum the Simpson's tune.
And isn't it just buddy typical, we are driving home today from our mini world tour of Scotland today, after visiting flash floods, mudslides and storm force weather warnings.
Turns out that this was indeed the myth like week we oft heard about as kids where the sub used to shine so much that the pavements melted!
If I'd just stayed home I'd have saved such a lot of Grieg and would have more than my right arm tanned from hanging out the window. (We drive on the wrong side if the road here, remember?"
😆
Now I feel like making tiny kites from poetry pages and bots of thread, but can't , because that probably is illegal, or should be anyway! Maybe I'll just write a poem, tie some thread to it and fly it away instead! 😃

Sounds like a good idea...and yes, "not the wrong side, just the other side." I drove in Trinidad.... read more
We have had the same type of heat in Virginia. It is said that on such days, when dogs chase cats, they both walk.

I love it..."they both just walk"

Woooow, this poem really makes me feel the heat , the kind of day where even the animals give up. I love how you painted such a heavy atmosphere and then contrasted it with your wish to escape through Alaska’s cool poetry. That last image of using poems as a vehicle is beautiful. It left me with a sense of both exhaustion and hope.

Thank you for your kind review, Neha.

Written by a poet who is obviously familiar with mid-west summers.

It's not the heat ... it's the humidity!!!

I recall those dog days of August when I was a kid and a fan in the window was the closest thing to air-conditioning we had.
Those days put the "stick" in sticky.

Thanks for the memory old friend.

Fans certainly don't help with humidity...
Sorry I brought back such stickiness...
You can Jacob!
Just transport your mind ... "I am cool, the air is fresh and poetry takes me wherever i choose to go today."
Dreamers can fly with imaginative wings.

even really old wings, Stella?

Yes, even old wings like ours can fly into dreamland 😊.
Got that heat dome fever I see.

It's been a little heated this summer in the midwest.

I don't know about Alaska though... that might be the greater of two evils. You might like Washington however, it's a strange place (the state not the capital which is also strange but for other reasons). Just watch out for folks from Oregon... there is some kind of rivalry going on there.
