A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Himself

wind
wind up toy
caroms off a cloud
looks like a playdoh
dinosaur laughing
others follow in the rain
soon, he will eat them

You do this fantastically brilliant job of switching between the mundane and the violent so effectively that the transition is fluid, seamless, and well received. You go from this stunning imagery of clouds and toys and cue balls, to -- boom! Dinosaurs! Eating! Murder or survival? There is a sort of subtle depth there that I absolutely fall in love with each time I indulge in your work.

I took this poem as people who underestimate the wolf among the sheep. They look innocent and may even present leadership skills (i.e. the line "others follow in the rain", I assume to follow the dinosaur in question) and figure out who they truly are far too late. I also took this as the loss of innocence, fading into something far more dangerous. Its all so beautiful no matter how I look at it.

You have once again outdone yourself.

Watching clouds has always been a favorite pastime for me. You taught me a new word...."carom". playdoh dinosaurs can be inspirational! Lydi**

One of the reasons why 'silence = complicity'. whether that silence comes from thinking that dinosaur is only playdoh, or from thinking that dinosaur will somehow solve their problems (who needs an umbrella?). On the other hand, some are more ferocious than he is. But too many decent people still do not yet understand that he came out of the very workings of the dinosaur world, and while that meteor may have ended his reign of terror, the world kept moving on. After all, there is plenty of playdoh, is there not? But without that meteor, there would be no decent people. Perhaps these people will not only want to get relief from the rain, but they will also see the need to end the deeper reign.

Jacob, your poetry has a bite to it lately, and it is not only much appreciated but urgently needed.
