This may be my favorite poem of yours because i felt a little too related. And even if I didn’t feel related you would just make the reader in the story with your magnificent way of using words… “poems are just exes now” what?!? Incredible! What else i can say… and longing looks, tapping sighs… i can imagine you like that.
I am so jealous, i wish i was the one who wrote this poem…
I am smiling too at the humour in your lines dear j. A muse that can’t be satisfied lol. What an appetite she must have. You know muses come and muses go. Mine is flighty and fickle. Clears off, packs her bags without warning and takes extended holidays. We have an understanding, but a close friend - never. That’s where reality comes in handy. Thank you for the smile while my days are grey.

I am glad I could bring you a smile, Chris...so glad.

The metaphor of that first verse is more than fitting for your last line, "that is reality". When my ex came to me to sign the divorce paper, she said, "I thought we would be together forever," was a knockout blow, since it was she who wanted the divorce, had found someone else to love.
Muses can be fickle, especially poetry muses. We must always be on our best behavior.
