a degree of decree

a degree of decree

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

a degree of decree

an allegory married a metaphor

they fought over figurative language

the allegory wanted to use symbols

not thimbles

and the metaphor

wanted to use its own

to have totally different meanings

poems clashed

the kids had less than lofty goals

they just wanted to contain imagery

Show scenes

landscapes, nature

the disappointed parents

finally let them be

but ended up splitting infinitives

and then splitting up

personification, the godparents

ended up adopting the adjectives

so the imagery could have visitation

The parents disappeared

into literal purgatory

still fighting

and eventually there was no more

family tree

just a few prodigal ideas

that had nowhere to go.

Once the infinitives are split there's no way back Jacob. I was left with an initive while she got use of finite, which doesn't even begin to pretend to be fair!
And you know kids. They want infinity plus, not a bag of broken initives! 😀
Love this!
