many lament the decline of liberal arts departments, the decline of literacy, and the absolute rule of "practical/technical skills" in life. however, maybe we shouldn't expect to be "rewarded" by a world that's mostly antithetical to everything human. rainbows serve no clear purpose. they just are, and they are a fleeting, momentary encounter with ethereal beauty. many won't notice it, but those that do, will appreciate it immensely. :)
A penny for your thoughts,
and a billion for your verses...
words felt too small,
so I started speaking in pictures,
trading ink for color
and letting silence paint its own soft rush.
Thanks for checking my balance —
seems my verse-account is still afloat.
Though honestly, I spend metaphors
faster than I earn them,
and I’m forever finding stray allegories
in my pockets.
And yes, I know there’s no credit
for onomatopoeia ...
tsk, boom, whoosh ...
but you must admit
it makes the moment pop.
Anyway, keep my account open.
More images are on the way…
just as soon as inspiration
stops spending them first.

Our president has eliminated use of the penny. But they still look good in my collection, especially my ones from 1909. The oldest ones after the Indian Head pennies.

Chicago, Indiana, for about 3 years as a child, 3 1/2 years in Germany when I was in the Air Force, and 2 weeks in Labrador, Newfoundland and Greenland, (including the northernmost Air Force base in the world as well as remote sites on the ice cap) when my band performed there as our own USO show back in about 1974; do those qualify? Of course, I'm a bit older now (78), so I think I deserve a little respect here. So whaddaya think, Mr. Freeze?

Yeah, Texas cold gets pretty cold, especially when you no longer have any cold weather gear.
Jacob,
Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Some poems rhyme
but not this one.
Jacob,
On my last foray into a graduate class on Modern Poetry, the professor asked the thirty or so of us, "Who among you has ever bought a volume of poetry? There were three of us, and he said, "I'm gonna do something else for a living, nobody reads poetry anymore," and he left the room. (he came back the next day) You know, the Philistines who run the world these days are not worth the bother, so just sit back down at your keyboard and clickety clack some fancy onomatopoeia right in their bowl of Post Toasties.
Who cares what they think... yeah, right, "think," don't make me laugh.

Yes, who cares.
Thanks, Vol for the smile...even a chuckle.
