a Harlem Night in a Forgetful Town

a Harlem Night in a Forgetful Town

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

a Harlem Night in a Forgetful Town

a clarinet sounds

from the misty channels

of a swollen night club

bluesy notes

inhale the cigarette smoke

of the patrons who speak softly

wanting to absorb the clary's voice

the player in his own world

feels the incessant vibrations

his fingers and lips

in synchronized eloquence

bleed from the cuts of his artistry

2 a.m. finds a few seats still filled

sleepy-eyed individuals

doing last call

as the musician

does a final encore

then sips the last of his

complimentary Manhattan

wishing he were playing

there instead of

this place he won't remember

the name of

tomorrow.

That's what its all about Jacob. Being both lost and synchronised with the sound in perfect harmony.
Why else would the crowd still be there listening at 2am, which we all know is past their best before date. 😀

Yes, why else?
Thank you, Lorry.

Nice write Jacob...

I can sense the vibe of this place.....kinda like a mini-movie...

the smoky atmosphere and clarinet player...blues and whiskey and good times....

Cheers..

I am glad you could visualize from the words..it is what we poets shoot for.

Both the descriptive terms and the kind of dismal nature of a club late are well-described here. Kudos. ~Jim
