The Rock and Roll Caboose

The Rock and Roll Caboose

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

The Rock and Roll Caboose

old rails
dirty nails
the wheels rolling
the same track

every day
passing by my own life
only stopping to let
deceased friends disembark

and a few tears
that rust those old rails
the train losing traction
like the forgetful mind

that sets down the book of life
unable to connect words
or the out-of-focus dots

I wash my fingers constantly
but the nails
remained soiled
with the dirt of waning life

waiting for someone to
repair the rails
so I can think straight
for at least one more ride.

Life does tend to soil the nails and rails, too many years walking a path and yet still... We wish for one more ride...

Nice ...

Thank you, Art.

Nicely penned and very evocative of troubling thoughts I have been having. I find myself musing on days and friends and lovers long gone. I am frustrated and sometimes fearful when my brain won’t retrieve the words I need. I feel like much of my life is losing traction.
