Next Door

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Next Door

i saw a rose broken off of its stem
and felt complacent
to be adjacent to a family of them
and placed on firm arrangement
love is a rose I heard
these people consistently bloom
in unison
and my cohesion with sanity
is attached
to their plot in the garden
I may make it my own one day.

Hii Jacobbb,

What a wonderful poem about broken roses and love. I enjoyed reading work about nature but how you relate the natural world to human encounters is such a talent. I wouldn't have predicted where you were going with the poem. Thanks for the unpredictable poem Jacob!!

I could think of worse plots to be my final resting place Jacob and how poetic it would be for you to nourish those blooms so that someone else might write of their beauty.

When we see happy places, filled with life and love, we are drawn to them and we want to belong. So if we are taken in, we are blessed. A beautiful write.

A rose broken from its stem speaks to me of sadness. Roses are at their best in the garden blooming in the scented warmth of summer. Roses remind me of people. They remind me of family, togetherness and the beauty of close relationships. Roses in bloom make me feel happy.
