Paradise Found

Paradise Found

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Paradise Found

a leaf crawled along my sidewalk
looking for love in windy caverns
turbulent kisses as other leaves pass by

it floats and spins in dizzying fashion
much like love is
when humans fall from the tree of reason

Adam and Eve had something with their tree
warnings unheeded
knowledge pursued daring the Entity above

there are no gates on my sidewalk
just freedom to act according to a heart's whim
not a fig leaf in sight to cover transgressions

naked expression accepted.

This is one of your most beautiful poems. The way those leaves kiss took my breath away.

Thank you for your very kind words, Divya. So nice to see you back around.

This is playful and thoughtful without being precious. I like how the leaf carries the whole poem—small, ordinary, but suddenly loaded with meaning. The turn from Eden to the sidewalk works well: myth stripped of gates and shame, replaced by choice and consequence. “Humans fall from the tree of reason” is a sharp line, and that ending—“naked expression accepted”—feels earned, not cute. Quiet, smart, and comfortably human.

Hiii Jacobbb,

I love how you wrote about leaves, love and the forbid sin. I wouldn't have seen the correlation to all three until this poem. So it was very enlightening to read this. Keep scribbling away. Love you work Jacob!!
