Goodwill to Men ( a thrift store leadership)

Goodwill to Men ( a thrift store leadership)

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Goodwill to Men (a thrift store leadership)

in bed with Big Oil

the spill worsens

ducks die in the slime

an Eagle flies over fifty states

of gray

we are all slaves

the union of respect

broken

love has seceded

Civil War

becomes a sequel

the first movie taught us nothing

the original director

hoped there would be only one version

and we would learn enough from it

but now we are back in bed

spilling hate that splits families

brother against brother

sound familiar?

is there enough voice

left in our cumbersome throats

to plead for the chains

to be unfastened

and thrown away for good?

or shall we pray

for a second Appomattox

and redemption?

the beds are sinking.

Excellent work, brother J.This one, it seems, is a very uncivil war, much bloodier than the last one. "I saw the news today, oboy," said the singer, but the news today showed another shooting in Portland, more killings by the feds, then a clip taken by the one who shot Renee Good that the feds say proves their case; but a piece of his video is missing, the part where he does the shooting.

The national divide looms over this offering, which calls up images of the Civil War. After Appomattox came Reconstruction, but we are not at that point yet. The mention of Big Oil is a nod to the current broil over Venezuela, I believe. I fear more such incidents will happen until Congress grows enough cojones to apply the 25th Amendment.
PS: Do a spell check on the second word of line two of stanza three.

But who is reacting to their hatred with violence? Because thinking a certain way and believing a certain way should be an encouragement to vote and not a license to murder and riot. I'm for removing every violent actor from the stage. I will defend even my worst enemy's right to be heard but never a right to violence. The left and so-called "progressives" are leading the charge towards socialism and communism which, as history proves, has NEVER been good for ANY nation and they are expressing their beliefs by burning, looting, impeding traffic, and obstructing justice.

This poem willl stay with me. It has such an agonized voice and at the same time, bafflement. It feels like one is stuck in a nightnare. Only God can save it all now. But He seems to be just watching, for now.
