A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

unblessed

a cold blade of grass

with white on its face

shivers and waves

at my back door

asking to be loved.

I know the feeling, I’ve had some strange times with previous partners turning up like a bad penny.

This is quite a new low for some.

Impressive but short. I can definitely relate and understand it.

I am glad you could find the allegory here...a poem prompted by the heaviest snow we have had in 10 .. read more
Wow! this is beautiful, not just because it is (and it is) but also because the poem I just wrote and the one I recently reviewed "Fresh shoots are breaking through" have a similar theme of cold and hope. I love how we can share and express what we are going through and how it varies and at the same time, we connect.

Yes, we share topics and feelings in common.

Gee, it seems people are reading your poem as a weather report, reporting back in themselves. I had to laugh at that. Is this the response you sought? It’s a beautiful poem, glistens like frost in the newborn sun.

The sharpness of the blade of grass is such a contrast to the request for love. The finest of imagery here dear j, in this little poem. Hope the thaw comes soon, soring is just round the corner. Lovely metaphor too.

With all this snow, at least our spring will be a most beautiful green. Living in Maryland, I have never missed my California more. It's been brutal, with the artic cold and ice on top of snow. I've been feeding squirrels, birds, gulls and crows as much as I can everyday. I really feel for them, with temps in the teens during the day and single digits at night. How is it there? Not much to do but hunker down and stay warm, I guess. Take care, J!

And sometimes we are out in the cold, away from love, just wishing to be noticed.

Short, but neat poem here....

Conjures up images of an icy winter's morning.....looking outside to see a white scene....

I liked the idea of it asking to be loved....

I love what is behind these words Jacob. Those brief moments, perhaps with coffee in hand of a morning as we contemplate not only life's big questions but the infinitesimally small that is there every day, if only we look.

Appreciate
and yes, if only we look.

I like the simplicity of this one, especially after watching news footage of people trying to salvage frozen plants in the deep south. ~Jim

Here is a poem open to interpretation, a type of Rorschach card. It could be a dog or cat in metaphor or a person, one's last thoughts and mood set the scene. Maybe a light skinned south American with a sea of grass behind it pleading for entry. A lovely poem Jacob
