a small repair

a small repair

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

a small repair

i find the deep white

beautiful

but alarming

where did the roads go?

where is my life's journey?

under shovelfuls of repentance

my heart stretches to the limit

i shovel harder

but the white is too deep

my avalanche of a confession

eases some of the pain

of consequence

God watches me work

and pauses

i keep shoveling

i know there is pavement

before reaching damnation.

The recent whitening of the landscape creates wonderful opportunities for metaphors. The mind drifts with this one dear j.

Thank you for reading me, Chris.
j.
This stretches my mind completely.

I like how this piece shows off the hard-working character of the author.

It’s not often that you get a glimpse of the writers true character. That’s what makes this stand out to me.

I do enjoy this read. It’s reflective, stubborn and progressive.

I can understand that though.

Frayed from experience. Not to be shamed of.
This is almost childlike in its simplicity Jacob. Very reminiscent of those autumnal days of childhood when we realise (yet again) that the trees are naked and we begin to hyperventilate, until a growed up reminds us it happens every year.
Beautiful but alarming is an excellent choice of words, especially as the years pass and we end up looking like a mountaineer just to go for a coffee and a newspaper.
I just pray there is pavement there and hope i don't do that knee jerk thunk when you blindly walk off it onto road! 😀
