Two Senryu

Two Senryu

days end in smoke filled cities

debris of lives

the world is a landfill

one more inch to scale

on a map of conquest

the executioner smiles

Such a sad state of affairs this world of ours. After reading your 2 Senryu, my mind went to April 19th, 1943 and the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. Jews and others living in the ghetto, don German uniforms, rose up, drove out the Nazi's, and for almost one month controlled the ghetto, stopping the Nazi's "Great Action" of sending the Warsaw Jewish population to the Treblinka concentration camp, for that month. It stands as a testament to humanity's courage and willingness to sacrifice everything in the face of overwhelming odds, in order to fight oppression. Such courage is needed in these horrific times, in Gaza, Iran, and in mass, non-violent resistance here against modern day Nazi's and Trump's MAGA Fascists. Let's wipe that smile off the executioner's face.

Thanks Jacob, for the humanity it takes to write poems like this.

A tale of our times. Two separate senryu that paint pictures in my mind of a world in crisis. Sometimes less, says so much more. You have captured warfare j.

They sure do j. Their world a haven of peace:)
Sinister, captivating and thoughtful.

Enchanting in its own ways.

A pleasant read. Nothing that I don’t disagree with.
