Bloodlines and Scavengers

Bloodlines and Scavengers

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Bloodlines and Scavengers

intrepid lake
swells its banks
the piranhas feed
on lack of resolve

minnows are the children
swimming free of decay
but they will grow
and the piranhas will be watching.

Annnnnd you say so much with so little. Rust never sleeps, perhaps, in the Neil Young sense. So many who drain, so many who take. It weighs down, it does. I spend most of my time alone, these days. Some friends, many acquaintances, but alone with my reading and my little poems, is where I'm happiest.

Neil is a treasure...Thanks for your words, John.

There are always predators and victims, no matter where we look Jacob. We can only hope our bloodline grows up to become neither.

Oh, for the day we have neither and people shake hands and hug. Thank you for your words.

I saw that horror movie, Piranha, when it came out in the theater. 77 or 78 I think. Nature has predator and prey but the two are not always mutually exclusive. I enjoyed the read. F.

Bloody hell, that would make a good inspiration for a slasher horror piece.
Hellooo Jacobb!!!

Love how you used nature and in this case the piranhas and the minnows. It is true usually there is some prey out there to eat the minnows of life. But lessons learned for this little minnow (me) to always keep watch of the piranhas of life. Thanks for sharing this reflective poem.

I am reminded how the weak can become an easy target. Whether in nature or real life, you see it all the time. The innocent children in life, suffer greatly at the hands of deadly politicians worldwide. Dark, stark and truthful.

Thanks, Chris...are you surprised I used Piranhas for the metaphor instead of Neons?

Ha ha. No piranhas in our tank, neons always welcome:)
I really like this one.

It’s deadly in its approach to the reader.

Some strong choice of words. Carefully written.

This embraces the dark side of nature. The side that is more eye-catching than ever.

Extraordinary piece. I feel a bit inspired from it.
